Choosing Breast Forms

One of the hardest things to get right in crossdressing is creating the right female form that suits your body. Here's some tips on breast forms and how to create the perfect look.

Overview

There are lots of different ways to create realistic breast forms on the male body. Let’s explore the different ways that it can be done, all of which offer different advantages both visually, aesthetically and financially.

1. Silicone breast forms (breast plates)

Silicone breast forms are the ultimate item in a cross dresser’s wardrobe for creating breast form and clevage! They do however come with several drawbacks — specifically the price, which can be easily over €100/$100 and in a lot of cases much more than that. That being said, there are a lot of budget options available on the market.

Depending on where you are in the world, you could consider looking on AliExpress, Temu or Amazon. You also have sites like Roanyer, which provide excellent quality and customer service for returns, which is ideal as it’s hard to get the right size and colour just using measurements online.

In addition to the one’s above, they come in different styles - the one’s below being a low-neck cut version, which can be easier to put on.

Pro’s and Con’s of silicone breast forms

From personal experience, I have found several reasons why I would (and wouldn’t) recommend breast forms, which are:

Pro’s 🙂
  • They are incredibly real and feel amazing!
  • The shape is very realistic
  • The silicone-filled cups are very realistic, both to look at and to touch and there’s also a cheaper cotton-filled alternative, which is also still very realistic, considering they’re a lot cheaper
  • Easy to wash. Note - it’s recommended to have talcum powder to lightly apply afterwards, although not essential
  • Long lasting, provided they don’t get damaged
  • Lots of skin tones to choose from, for the common skin types
  • Lots of breast styles to choose from for different looks
  • Also come in full body forms — personally I haven’t tried since they are pricey.
  • The nipples are really realistic
  • In general, if kept and cleaned well can be very hygienic
Con’s 😕
  • It can be hard to find correct sizing and one’s which are big enough (the Asian sizing for example can be very small, so keep this in mind).
  • They can be hard to take of and put on, especially if the sizing is tight
  • They can tear quite easily if excess stress is applied to the edges
  • It can be very hot and sweaty wearing them — especially if you live in a hot country like me!
  • Customised forms can cost well over €300, which might rule them out for some people on a tight budget
  • The body fit/sizing seems to scale-up with the cup size, which means that if you have a large frame you might be forced to go for the larger cup sizes
  • The finishing around the neck can vary quite a lot and doesn’t always feel right, although you can trim the silicone apparently.

Price point: €50 - €100. High end models: €100 - €500+

2. Silicone breast prosphetics, with strap

These are quite a good intermediate step if you are on a budget, but also want to test out some silicone forms. They are very adjustable and sizing in general won’t be an issue, unless you have a larger frame.

One thing I dislike about these is that they seem to be based on a smaller person and so possibly not intended for male sizing — or sometimes can just be sizing issue (Asian sizes etc). For this reason, the breasts can appear quite close together, but the shape is convincing.

If you’re just starting out then they could be a good option as they pair well with bras and tops. They also have clear straps, which can be useful, depending on what you’re going to wear on top.

In case you’re wondering, mine were delivered in a fairly discreet box although I wouldn’t assume that this will always be the case, depending on the supplier.

Price point: €30 - €60

3. Silicone breast fillers & inserts

The silicone breast fillers are very nice to the touch and have a semi-realistic finish in terms of colour, size and texture. They are also ‘tacky’ on the rear and so tend to adhere to the skin, which is quite useful since they don’t move around once on.

They also make silicone breast inserts, like the one’s below, but these aren’t adhesive.

4. Fabric breast plate (less common)

Note: This fabric breast plate that I found on Temu seems to have been discontinued, but I have included it so that you can see what’s out there. You can probably find them on Ebay or Etsy.

This is my go-to quick breast plate setup for short sessions, since they are very quick to put on and offer a great shape. It can be great for playing around and just testing different outfits, where you plan to focus on the outfit combos and not the forms. They also are very adjustable and elasticated, since the adjustable straps fit all body sizes.

They are also great as they can be washed easily and hard to damage, although on mine the fabric is stained a bit at the top.

Some issues with these are that:

  • You can see the straps, depending on what you’re wearing on top
  • The colour is quite pale, but still not too bad
  • They are only the top and front part (i.e. no back cover or belly cover), so you can’t convincingly use them with lingerie sets. Instead they are best for outfits, where they aren’t seen.

They can also be paired with breast pads, since they are essentially formed but hollow and so if you want more substance you can add the pads behind.

Price point: €10 - €20

5. Padded bra forms & spongy pads

If you’re just getting into cross dressing, these could be a good option for you! They are easily available online and come in different sizes.

A good thing is that they can also be worn underneath tops and one-piece, second skin outfits to give extra form.

I’ve also used them under a skin-tone body suit and they can be a good body form starting point.

One thing to mention is that you have to get the orientation correct. It isn’t obvious and in some cases, doesn’t matter!

Price point: €10 - €20

6. Padded bras

Prosthetic padded bra

For those on a budget, the padded bra can be an excellent starting point to get going. Especially since they come in skintone colours and so you can wear bras over the top.

Visually speaking they’re best worn underneath and not seen, since the straps are more obvious. They can also be paired with padded bra forms or simple silicon prosthetics to increase the cup size to what you are going for.

They are also easy to wash and just go in the delicate wash — on mine, the inner pads come out and it’s easy to put them back in afterwards.

Price point: €10 - €15

7. Padded tops, gym tops and compression tank tops

You can also experiment with padded gym tops, which offer a bit of shape as a base layer. They are also good at hiding hair chests, to a point!

Stretchy tank tops can also be great for a base layer and works well with padded bra inserts. Since they’re stretchy, they take almost any size of insert or stuffing.

8. Chrome breast plate

These are super expensive but I suspect that we will start to see cheaper copies coming onto the market soon.

Price point: €2000+

Summary

So there you have it! A run-down of the different types of breast forms on the market and different ways to create a body form base layer for further cross dressing. All have pro’s and con’s depending on what you’re after and how much money you have to spend.
